My own creation...

I wish I could skim...
Well, after following many tutorials and watching how to create many different kinds of effects, I finally have created my own image, using Blender 2.59

Thanks to Andrew Price for the motivation, I have created this image based on the theme 'Underwater.' Andrew runs monthly competitions on his website, and I think it's a great way to get you making your own stuff.

On Top of Old Smokey...

With the release of Andrew Price's new package, known as the Nature Academy, he thought he'd share another one of his tutorials, this one about creating some realistic snowy mountains. This tutorial goes into more depth about the material nodes, a powerful underused feature of Blender. Using these nodes, I was able to separate the snow from the rocks. Then by sculpting and adding displacement modifiers, the snow was able to be broken up for a more natural feel.

Thanks again Andrew!

Underground Scene... everyone has to do one.

I remember Andrew Price saying that everyone has to do a grungy looking scene at some point in their artistic lifetime, so I thought I'd tackle it too. His tutorials on creating an underground subway scene taught me more techniques on creating atmosphere and applying array and mirror modifiers, but also parenting them to a curve, allowing me to make the tunnel any shape I want.

Such simple techniques when used correctly give the most amazing results.

Our World

Our Beautiful Planet
This week, with more tips from Andrew Price and NASA, I was able to create the Earth. To my surprise, this image was relatively easy to make. There were some cool new tips I learnt, like how to use the material nodes to create awesome effects, like how the city lights show up when the Earth is in shadow.

I'd love to create an animation of this at a later stage, or even use these techniques to create my own planet, maybe with asteroids surrounding it.

Texturing in Blender!

Who leaves flammable barrels lying around... in the sun?
Thanks again to Andrew Price, I have now learnt how to texture properly. Before I was fumbling around trying to figure it all out. Now I have a stronger understanding of this procedure. This is what I created from this tutorial, even though the main focus is outdoor lighting.

A Perfect City

My take on 'A Perfect City'
Well I got animating again... this time on Blender. I recently bought the 'Mirror's Edge' iPhone app, and some of the songs from the soundtrack. I then just felt like creating a video.

So I jumped on Blender and created a small island of building in the same style as shown in the Mirror's Edge menu. It did require a bit of experimenting with the ambient occlusion, but I finally found a way to re-create the feel. Check it out here

New Look

I wasn't really happy with my previous layout or logo... So I spent a couple of days working out something else... and what you now see is the beginning of the new logo. I am currently working on refining an animation to go with it for promos and when making films. Stay tuned... if anyone's there.

NEW PROJECT!!

Gee I am just full of all these new ideas that I want to do... but I can only do so much. So I have decided to take an idea that has been collecting dust for some time, and re-animate it into a short film (possibly a series).

I let myself become inspired form the game 'Crayon Physics' with it's simple concept of drawings coming to life. So that's sort of what my animation is based on. This will take some time to create so maybe I'll keep on posting updates about it every now and then. Stay tuned.

Oh, and if you haven't already checked out my films, you can do so right here.

Cheers
Taylor H.
